Dr. Carol Colfer, a visiting scholar with the Southeast Asia Program and a senior associate at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), delivered a September 25, 2013 lecture on gender analysis and indigenous fallow management in Southeast Asia.
Colfer, book review editor for the journal Agriculture and Human Values, is currently synthesizing the gender information contained in 120 papers on swidden-fallow systems (or shifting cultivation systems), to be published in the forthcoming book, "A Growing Forest of Voices," edited by Malcolm Cairns.
The event was part of AWARE, an initiative to ensure that gender is considered in all IP-CALS activities, including sponsored and academic programs.
