Carolyn Levine was diagnosed with aortic stenosis, a narrowing or calcification of one of the critical valves of the heart. This type of diagnosis, if untreated, usually leads to death within two years.
Due to her age and prior surgeries Carolyn was considered too high risk for open-heart surgery, but Weill Cornell doctors used a new, minimally invasive procedure called TAVR, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, which has extended and improved her quality of life.
