SPEAKER 1: Good morning. And welcome to all graduates, honorees, families, friends and my fellow members of the staff and faculty of Cornell University's School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Speaking for all of us in CEE, it is an honor, a privilege, and a pleasure to celebrate with you today.
Cornell University is located on the traditional homelands of the Gayogohono, the Cayuga Nation. The Gayogohono are members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, an alliance of six sovereign nations with an historic and contemporary presence on this land. The Confederacy precedes the establishment of Cornell university, New York state, and the United States of America.
We acknowledge the painful history of Gayogohono dispossession and honor the ongoing connection of Gayogohono people, past, and present to these lands and waters.
Before starting, the first thing I need to do is point out the exits. So if there's any emergency or fire alarm, there are plenty of exits on either side going directly out to the outside. So just if something happens, move calmly away.
We will do our best to move today's ceremonies along as quickly as possible. Graduates have places to be by 12:30 and family and friends have seats to find in the stadium. On the back of your programs, you'll see a paragraph about photography. During our ceremony, Grad Images, our professional photographers for today, will be taking pictures of each graduate. We ask the guests to please stay seated throughout the entire program to allow the professional photographers to take the pictures.
We'll now begin by acknowledging those graduates who have received school awards or other special recognition. Student awardees, when I call your name, please come forward to the front to receive your award. And then please stay up front until all awards have been given out so that we can get a group photo.
